Zoe’s story

Oxfordshire Mind are so inspired reading our fundraisers stories about how they got involved and the ways they are supporting the charity.

One of our Oxford Half Marathon runners is Zoe, who has very kindly offered to share her story:

*Trigger Warning – Sensitive Content*

‘I will be running the Oxford Half Marathon this October for the charity Oxfordshire Mind.
Myself and my brother Jamie will be running this together in remembrance of our brother Shane.
We will be running just over 13k Miles and fundraising each for this charity, my goal is to reach £300. This is the first time for me doing anything like this and will be a challenge, I have just started my training on Monday the 11th March.
The reason for doing this and setting this goal – Some of you may or may not know that unfortunately I lost my dear Brother to Mental health issues recently.
It was so unexpected and such a tragedy and is still so very raw to me. I was with him the evening before he decided to take his own life and I had no incline of his mental state.
Myself and whole family was unaware of this charity Oxfordshire Mind until the loss of my brother. If we had known or my brother had known, he may of reached out for some help. If I can help just one other person to recognise there is help out there then my goal has been achieved.
This was our chosen charity at Shane’s funeral also and raised a nice amount.
Me doing this is giving me motivation and strength to help myself & others, taking a positive out of this tragedy.
If you would like to sponsor me for this please see below details, any help is much appreciated and every penny literally counts for this local charity.
