Benefits for Better Mental Health Volunteer
Want to support people navigating the benefits system in a practical, positive way?
Benefits for Better Mental Health (BBMH) Volunteers carry out basic eligibility checks to help people to understand and access the right benefits for them.
You will be:
- Supporting people to understand their benefit entitlement through carrying out ‘benefit health checks’ by phone
- Signposting people to our benefit advisors or other relevant services for further support
- Recording appointments on our client database
- Making the process of claiming benefits less stressful for our clients.
No prior experience of the benefits system is required, but you will need to be an empathetic, calm and organised.
Time commitment: 1 half day shift per week, during office hours.
Location: Osney Mead, Oxford, with some options for remote volunteering once experienced. Reasonable travel expenses reimbursed.
Skills needed: You will need to be empathetic, calm and organised.No prior knowledge of benefits is needed – you will be fully trained and following a guided process.
Training and support: One day Induction training, plus one day Benefits for Better Mental Health Volunteer training. Shadowing once in role. Ongoing support and supervision is provided.
